Medjugorje Class - Year 5 and 6
Class teachers: Mrs Anna Putt
Hello and welcome to Medjugorje,
As the eldest children in the school, we view our responsibilities as models to the rest of the school with pride. We try to set the example in terms of behaviour, whether that be showing kindness to others in the playground, sitting beautifully in assembly or ensuring everyone has what they need. We have Head Girls and Boys, Prefects and a Chaplaincy team all of whom take roles of responsibility around the school.
We like to work hard and have fun rewards too. We enjoy seeing the application of all that we have learnt and the reason we are learning it. For example, we cover project work on sustainable farming, what it is and why it is important to help our local farmers. This involved a trip to a local farm, plenty of research and writing a presentation which we gave to our local MP on his recent visit to try to enact change on behalf of others.
As a class, there is plenty of ownership over what we are doing and why. The class have written a charter for how they want us to be: focused learners, fun both inside and out of the classroom, a safe space for us to share and a peaceful, calm environment. They have also had a say in the rewards and sanctions that follow for sticking to our charter!
Our RE lessons involve lots of discussions about Bible stories and issues of Catholic Social teaching. We really enjoy getting involved and debating different topics. We also go to Mass regularly and appreciate being part of our local church including leading parts of the service.
We would love to welcome you to our class, show you around and talk to you about all we enjoy doing and learning at St Joseph’s.
