Lourdes - Preschool
In Pre-school we are always very busy exploring the world and learning through our play. We follow the Development Matters framework but interlink it with the whole school Evolve Curriculum in order to best prepare for Reception. All of this learning is underpinned by our Catholic faith and values.
To enrich our experiences, we like to have visitors come in and also go out and explore our local area, for example, we have had visits from: dentists, firefighters, members of the RAF and police. We regularly visit St Joseph's church, the town market and the library.
Within our indoor and outdoor provision, we have plenty of areas to explore; we get messy, construct exciting buildings, create art masterpieces, carry out fine and gross motor movements through mark making and climbing, make friendships, learn new vocabulary and skills and use our imagination.
We spend time learning outside in our Early Years garden, making waterways with guttering, working as a team to build a balancing trail with milk crates and large wooden planks, making delicious meals in our mud kitchen, riding the bikes, climbing trees, practice our ball skills and planting flowers and vegetables.
Once a week, spend time in our wild area where we get to explore the natural world around us looking for bugs and flowers, playing games and sitting round the fire for some treats.
As well as Christmas, Easter and Catholic feast days, we also like to look at other special celebrations throughout the year, for example, Chinese New Year, Armed forces week, Month of the Military Child, Science week and Earth Day.
Everyday we cover Phase One phonics through games and activities to enhance our listening skills so that we are ready to start Phase 2 in Reception.
In Pre school you will hear lots of laughter and storytelling and see lots of smiles and friendships blossom.
